What Are Korean Pleats?
Korean pleats are a sewing technique where the fabric is folded and stitched to create permanent pleats in the curtain. This is one of the most common styles today. Paired with S-hooks or adjustable hooks, the curtains can be hung on tracks or Roman rods with rings.

Advantages

  1. Easy to install and remove for cleaning.

  2. Looks neat with a good sense of depth and structure.

  3. Pleat size can be customised during production—more or less fabric can be used depending on your budget, making it cost-effective.

  4. Adjustable hooks allow you to fine-tune the curtain height.

Disadvantages

  1. Once the pleats are sewn in, they can’t be changed.

  2. In terms of drape and overall aesthetics, it’s generally less refined compared to S-fold curtains.

Korean Pleats

  • Usually have evenly spaced folds sewn at the top, but the folds are not pinched tightly together.

  • The pleats are softer, more relaxed, and often paired with S-hooks or adjustable hooks.

  • More flexible in spacing and fabric use — you can make them fuller or flatter depending on your preference.

  • Common in Asian markets and often considered more practical and budget-friendly.

Pinch Pleats

  • A Western style where 2–3 folds are sewn together and “pinched” at the base to create a fan-like shape.

  • The pinch can be double pleat or triple pleat, and it’s permanently sewn in place.

  • Generally more formal, structured, and symmetrical than Korean pleats.

  • Typically hung on rings with hooks or on tracks with hook carriers.
